Activities in Ross on Wye
Ross-on-Wye is known as "the birthplace of British tourism", and for very good reason. The Wye Valley's river scenery, its picturesque landscapes, and its castles and historic buildings are truly something to behold. Whilst you are a guest at The White House there is plenty outdoor adventures for you to participate in, whether it's canoeing on the River, enjoying a great days fishing (The White House is 100 yards from the River Wye) or a beautiful walk, either into the local town which is 5 minutes away, or round the local parks. Alternatively, a leisurely walk around the town may be more to your taste, where you'll find many local independent shops, coffee houses, restaurants and pubs for you to visit, relax and unwind in.
Canoeing on the River Wye
Canoeing on the River Wye is one of the most beautiful ways to see the Wye Valley. The White House is situated right across from the river and is popular with canoeing enthusiasts, from complete beginners to experienced paddlers, and we offer a secure storage facility for those with their own canoes too!
Cheltenham has become the home of some of the most popular racing events in the world, with a variety of experience ranging from meetings in October and April to the excitement of the November meeting and the family fun of new years day, and is only a 35 minute drive from The White House. We are not quite close enough to hear the famous 'Cheltenham Roar' but close enough to host you and your guests in comfort and style before you head off to one of the U.Ks most famous racecourses.
Fishing On The River Wye
Ask most anglers why they enjoy spending time in the outdoors and you're likely to hear the word 'freedom'. Spending the day casting your fishing rod on the beautiful River Wye fishing, relaxing, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Wye Valley is the perfect way to take a break from your normal everyday environment. The White House is right beside the River Wye. Get up in the morning, have your breakfast, walk out of our front door, cross the road and you're there. What could be better?
And every one of our rooms has a river view.

If you're looking for some beautiful walks and wonderful scenery, you can walk the highlights of The Wye Valley amidst an enchanting blend of British landscapes. The Wye River criss-crosses the Welsh and English borders as it winds its way through scenic and tranquil countryside. The author George Borrow once described it as “the most lovely river, probably, the world can boast of”.
As a border river it has an intriguing history with Iron Age Hillforts and a string of castles defending its boundaries. Today, it’s a place where grapes ripen, salmon leap, markets bustle and culture thrives. The White House B&B nestles right beside the River Wye.
Come stay with us, enjoy the river views from every room, and enjoy the wonderful walks too.
